First Jimmy’s Chicken Shack played a show at Market 20 a few months ago, now Alterbridge and Another Animal are playing a free show at Mill Point Park in Hampton tonight. What, never heard of either of them? You’re not alone. Alterbridge is made up of Creed, minus Scott Stapp and with some guy we’ve never heard of as the singer and Another Animal is Godsmack but with the lead singer from Ugly Kid Joe in the front seat.

Alterbridge is taking time off from contributing music to the WWE and released an album a few days ago. Why are they playing a free show in a small open air venue in Hampton? Who knows, maybe they’re trying to bump their street cred. I’m sure that part of it has to do with the fact that they are trying to do everything they can to remove themselves from their former bands. FM99 couldn’t mention the name Creed on the air, instead referring listeners to the web site for the 411. My guess is that they are trying to get audiences familiar with their songs without pissing off the paying ticket holders who surely come only to hear Creed and Godsmack songs.

The show starts at 7:30. Get there early cause traffic will surely be horrible and Mill Point is pretty small. We’ll be going for the amusement factor only, starting at happy hour on Queen Street. Creed was one of my least favorite bands of all time and Alterbridge sounds like the same quasi-christian rock bullshit with a slightly less annoying lyricist. That being said, it might be cool to hear what the boys from Godsmack sound like now that they’re not rocking the US Army commercials anymore.
