the day after: akron, oh

I have been in Ohio for a couple of days now. My aunt Bev has been great enough to let me stay with her, and I have been able to see my family and some old friends. So, on saturday night, my cousin Ray, and his fiancee Heather invited me with them to some spots in downtown Akron. Our first stop was this really nice micro-brewery called Ohio Brewing Co. They have all kinds of micro brews and live music to enjoy.

The place is pretty big and it was packed being a saturday. We managed to be upstairs in a private birthday party for one of Heather’s friends. A good time was to be had by all. Next stop was the Platnium Horse Cabaret. Obviously no pictures to show from this “Gentleman’s Venue”, but rest assured, my pocket is a lot lighter…Next stop will be Chicago, but when is still TBD.

till that day…

Following Hampton Roads Music on Twitter

We’ve discovered that a lot of people had been using the #hamptonroads hashtag on Twitter to follow local posts on Twitter before switching over to #HRVA to designate the area. The main concern are those important 8 extra characters. It’s funny that Justin and I have been using the #HRV tag for the past month, and it’s nice to know they’re out there.

My thought in picking HRV was related to those OBX decals everyone puts on their cars. At first, Outer Banks was the only locale being represented in such a way, then other places started popping up. I’ve seen HPT for Hampton, NPN for Newport News, VAB for Virginia Beach, and even POQ for Poquoson. Of course you’ve got issues with whether RVA is Roanoke or Richmond; luckily I don’t live there and don’t have to worry about it. Of course, people are printing up stickers for their bands and everything else now; hopefully you see my point.

It’s good to see that people are talking about it at least, and not just concerned with what particular city they’re in. A quick look at Norfolk doesn’t show any related hashtags are, so it looks like everyone has the right idea in using regional tag at first.

Until there’s a consensus, if ever, I’ll just keep using both when I can.

And getting onto the music related part of the post, I wanted to give a shoutout to @HRMusic, who seems to be doing a pretty good job in RT all local music related posts around. So if you are on Twitter, and want to know whats going on, make sure you follow!

Final note: I got some personal business to attend to this afternoon before heading out to Hipstock tonight. I’m trying to get there between 5 and 7, and plan on taking some video to upload to our qikstream, so check the stream or look for twitter updates under #hipstock for alerts when I start.

Thanks, see you,
