AS a Venue/Bar owner I find it insane to charge such an astronomical rate for a band to play songs that may be covered by the licensors company. Realistically, it would make sense to combine the 3 into one entity and make the payments reasonable. Especially in this day and age as the economy is declining and the cost of doing business, skyrockets. I myself have noted an extreme drop in patronage regardless of the bands I have playing. So do I tell the bands that covers are not allowed? Do I segregate those who are great up and coming bands but still fill in with a few covers until songwriting is done? If nothing else, the timeless classics that are played by cover bands, are already making millions of dollars and the cover bands keep those songs alive and keep the artists making money off of record sales.....ROCK BAND.... GUITAR HERO....TV....RADIO...all the big conglomerates that put the music out there to make HUGEEEE dollars for their company. I am just trying to run a simple venue/bar that has a capacity of about 160 ppl and keep music alive.....Original music is where it is at and my love of the music is what brought me to this business, but if they need to throw in a cover to round out a 40 min set...who cares. I have literally 100s of original bands in my area but do not want to create a segregated community where cover bands are not welcome...People like covers to sing to and relate too and LIVE is the only way to listen to music in my opinion.....thanks to corporate america we are losing sight of what is real and the passion that drives it. OH and thank you to Lars Ulrich for being such a self absorbed arrogant individual that we can not even share good music anymore......MP3 are you kidding me..how many times did we dub 8 tracks or cassettes as kids when our friends would get the new Def Leppard or AC/DC. Seriously, corporate america is killing the music scene, not cover bands

You're spot on. That venue wants to be successful but doesn't realize they have to put in an investment. They're spinning it as "we will help promote your band" when really it's "we're too cheap to pay you."

Hey Mike,

I didn't know any other way of contacting you, so I hope you get this feedback. Lord Bowler has an EP ready to go. We're having our CD release at Goody's on September 26. I'd like to get you a copy soon to show our gratitude for your youtube promotion. It actually helped score us a show at the boot in October. I'll send more details about the CD release soon. In the meantime, email me at matt@steamyatticrecords.com and let me know the best way to get you a CD whether by mail or meeting you downtown or something. Alright man - later on. keep up the good work!

Daily Press Letter to the Editor:
Beach parking
August 9, 2009

There are 460 paved parking spaces at Buckroe Beach, according to the July 9 Daily Press. One of the highest parking counts for 2008 was over 1,000 cars. At that time, parking was allowed not only at the one B-block that is used in 2009 but also at the Mallory Street B-block.

A reasonable number for cars per acre would be about 125. To satisfy a 1,000-car demand, 4.32 acres of off-street parking would be needed in addition to the present paved parking. Even if 4.32 acres were set aside for parking, where would be the allowance for growth in demand that is evident this year and is certain to come in the future? The lifeguard count of beachgoers at Buckroe Beach for the first half of July 2009 was 33,000, compared to 34,000 for the entire month of July 2008 (according to the Daily Press Web site, July 17).

The plan that is implemented will not just for be 2005 or 2007, but for the decades to come and for future generations of citizens and visitors to Hampton's Buckroe Beach. Developing this public property in Buckroe will deprive thousands of people of reasonable access to the best public beach on the Virginia Peninsula. As far as having people park on school property, a half mile or one mile away from the beachfront, would any of you want to park at a remote lot, wait, wait and wait some more, and then transfer all of the things that your family needs for a day at the beach to a bus or trolley?
